Safe Shelter
We provide 30-day emergency and 90- day extended shelter to survivors and their children in imminent danger. Food, necessities, case management, and support are available. In addition to emergency shelter for those in danger, we also provide help accessing longer-term housing, finding housing options, completing the voucher process, and emergency housing financial assistance.
Our confidential, safe shelter offers survivors of domestic or sexual violence and their children 30 days of safe shelter, on-site advocacy, safety planning, food, clothing, clean bedding, and hygiene necessities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Case management is available to help survivors connect with services such as subsidized housing, employment support, transportation assistance, child care resources, and other services as appropriate.
Our shelter prioritizes survivors by imminent danger and can use local hotels to provide safety if we are full. We do coordinate with other domestic violence/sexual assault shelters in the area to provide safety if staying in CDA is unsafe. We also take survivors from other areas if coming to north Idaho is a safe place to re-locate to.
Safe Passage provides individual counseling with licensed counselors. We can also offer EMDR services and a weekly support group. All services are provided with a trauma informed and culturally informed mindset.
We also partner with the Kootenai Humane Society so that victims can bring pets to the shelter—which helps sooth traumatized children who must leave home quickly. If you are a survivor of sexual or domestic violence and in imminent danger with no other housing options, please contact our crisis line hotline (208) 664-9303.
